Tips for your first few days at your new job.

Congratulations you have filled the position.
Here are a few tips to gain a good impression with your new boss and fellow colleagues.
It is crucial that you always arrive on time for work and dress appropriately.
Accept all offers of help with enthusiasm even if you already know what you are doing every company has a different way of doing things. Ask questions but ensure that you ask when the person isn't too busy. Be sociable and answer team members questions but don't monopolize the conversation and keep it light. Don't get involved in office gossip. Watch out the office rituals like who makes the morning coffee and offer your help. Remember you are there to work so give it 100%.

Other ways to help gain employment.

Ask yourself how badly you really want that job. Look around for courses to gain more skills which can also lead to more contacts in that particular industry (networking yourself). A course on self confidence could even improve your skills and how to sell yourself to potential employers. Advertise your skills using high traffic internet sites. Join forums. Remember that for each door that closes another opens.

Be Proud

Questions to ask a potential employer

Usually an interviewer will ask you if you have any questions for them. Make a short list of questions you would like to ask. In most cases they will only have time to answer one or two but at least you are prepared.

I would like to note that questions like " how many sick days or vacation days do you get" are not the type of questions to ask as they could lose you that potential job.

Ask the interviewer if there is anything that you could clarify for them.
What is the most important things that need to be accomplished if you were to be hired by them.
When are they likely to make a hiring decision.
Would it be okay to make a follow up with them.

If you have their business card follow up by contacting them with a thank you note.

If you are stuck on an interview question.

Steps what do to if you can’t answer an interview question.

First of all don’t make things up and never just say “I don’t know”

Ask the interviewer to clarify the question. Sometimes when this is done you can figure out what is being asked and you are able to answer it.

Let the interviewer know what you do know.

Tell the interviewer ways that you can find out the answer. This lets the interviewer know that you are able to take initiative to problem solve and are honest.

There is nothing stopping you from doing a follow up after the interview with an email or telephone call, letting them know the answer you were stuck on and how the problem was resolved.

Here are a few common questions that are asked at interviews that you can be prepared for.

What are your strengths.
Examples of answers to this could be your experience, your problem solving skills, your training etc

Always ensure you mention a work related weakness that you have improved upon and even how you have improved.

Why do you want to leave your current employment.
Never say anything negative about your previous employers. Examples of answers could be that you want a more challenging role or a change of career.

Tell me how you handled a difficult situation
An example of this could be how you dealt with a difficult client. How you managed to calm the client down by using good communication skills and how the outcome was positive.

Interview tips. part 1.

Do your homework.

Once you have reached the stage in securing yourself that all important interview, do you homework. By this I mean do some research on the company so that the potential employer sees that you are keen and so that you have a better understanding of how this work within.

Make sure you are dressed appropriately to the job description. ie. a smart suit for office work or clean trendy clothing for say a tattooist. Remember that first impressions count and can make or break the interview.

Make sure you arrive approximately 10 minutes early.

Remain attentitive.

It is always good to have questions of your own to ask the interviewer.

EMPLOYMENT

Whatever your job description is,  a street cleaner, a doctor, a van driver or a scientist. Every job has a purpose and is important in it's own way. Every employer and employee have a responsibility to one another and the work being produced.
I believe a strong work ethic, good communication and respect is the key to success for all those concerned.
One of my goals in life is too help bring together like minded people that are able to give advice, help others gain employment, or share your expertise or experiences.
